Jim Christrup, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in San Francisco since 1998. I have counseled a wide variety of clients in community settings since 1983. I offer gentle, supportive, interactive psychotherapy for individuals and couples.
Over the years, I have found that an integrated body/mind/spirit approach to psychotherapy can be especially effective in working with many difficult life problems. I have been trained in Hakomi Therapy (a somatic approach), Buddhist Psychology and Mindfulness Practices, EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
As your therapist, I act as guide and advocate for the person you are capable of being. Together, we can build on your strengths and resources to discover what resonates deeply, and explore new more satisfying and joyful ways of being in the world.

My Approach
My approach to psychotherapy is based in my belief that human beings are integrated, living systems. Mind, body and spirit operate together, not as disconnected parts. I have found that an integrated body/mind/spirit approach to counseling and psychotherapy can be especially effective in working with many difficult life problems.
Even as we struggle with our own life issues, we already have the qualities we are looking for, deep inside. Despite feelings of anxiety or depression, inside ourselves is a well of calmness, clarity, curiosity, compassion for ourselves and others, confidence, courage, creativity, and connectedness waiting to be tapped.
Our innate life force naturally wants to move toward greater wholeness and healing. Therapy supports and encourages this process, gently removing the blocks and supporting you as you begin to reconnect with your inner aliveness and bring it out into the world.
I have been trained in Hakomi Therapy, Buddhist Psychology and Mindfulness Practices, EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Learn more about the somatic approach to psychotherapy.
